The world is full of so many wonderful people and places to paint! As an artist,
I feel so fortunate to have been blessed with a gift that I can share with others.
I am a native Californian, born and raised in Long Beach. I received my art
training at California State University at Long Beach, Art Center, Laguna Beach
School of Art and Design, and various specialized classes and workshops.
The American Impressionists have greatly influenced my work. Expressing the beauty
of nature is one of the primary goals of impressionism painting. As an artist,
I believe I must not simply copy nature. I strive to interpret with paint and
color my emotional reaction to what I am seeing. In keeping with the impressionist
style of painting, Oils are my favorite media. I also enjoy using pastels together
with colored pencil, pen and ink, and watercolor to achieve expressive mixed media
effects.
My collection of recent work is a series of colorful impressionistic
oil paintings of California landscapes called “Coastal Colors”. Many
of these paintings were painted on location and directly from nature. The joy
I experience in creating a painting comes from the wealth of subject matter I
have been exposed to growing up in Southern California. Dazzling sunlight, often
tempered by ocean mist, illuminates our landscapes with colors like no other place
in the world. It’s very exciting for me to capture and express these colors
and moods on canvas.
